Fly Fishing for Steelhead trout
Fly fishing for steelhead fish can be a challenging and rewarding experience. These amazing fish share their heritage with the Atlantic and Pacific salmon. Although they are from the west coast of the United States and in Russia, they can also be found in the Great Lakes tributaries. That's because they were planted in the lakes many times in the 1800s.
There are many places you can go fly fishing for trout. As we have already said they are more abundant in Western United States. You can find plenty of trout in the rivers of northern California, Oregon and Washington State.
Steelhead are cousins of the rainbow trout and staining much chrome, etc.. They are amazingly acrobatic and can provide any angler with a fly complete challenge in trying to catch them.
Most of the techniques of fly fishing to catch Steelhead are based on those developed historically fish for Atlantic salmon. Flies are in the downstream angler on a floating line or sinking. Winter Steelheads are often considered the "hard core" of fly fishermen, sometimes lasting hours of repeated casting in cold water and freezing conditions for that tug that can occur when least expected. The main thing to keep in mind when fishing for rainbow trout is to practice patience. For people who fly fishing for trout regularly, a successful day consists of a good hook. You will not see big numbers of catches like you on trout rivers. Keep a positive attitude and watch the fish are.
Most pockets are located downstream trout, but other fishermen know it as well.
