If you like to go out fishing, than you will probably like to fish for some bluegill. This species does not get its name from the color of its gills, but the color of the skin that covers them. It is called a this because it has a bluish coloring on its gills. It is a smaller species, and often schools in large to medium groups with other fish of the same species. Now, I say that bluegill are small because I am referring to the northern bluegill. These are much smaller that the ones in the south. The ones in the south grow much larger. Fishing organizations can show you how to hunt for these fish.
You do not have to worry too much about learning how to catch the "elusive" bluegill, it is really not that hard at all. You will find that once you learn how to go fishing for them, you will be able to catch them by the bucket full. In fact, bluegill are so easy to fish for, that there are hardly any fishing organizations that are dedicated to only bluegill. But, do not worry, you can just go over to a general fishing club that does not focus one only one species and you will learn all about this little fish.
Do not deceive yourself, either, regarding the taste of the bluegill. They are clearly edible; in fact, you can fillet them like you could any other panfish. That is right, this fish is considered a panfish. This group of fish gets their name from their size and their taste: they are small enough to fit into a frying pay, yet taste good enough to eat. You really cannot go wrong when you join some fishing organizations and learn how to fish for bluegill.
Go to fishing organizations to learn how to fish.

Fishy's Favorites for Bass, Trout, and Salt Water $11.57 As whimsical as it is pragmatic, this book teaches how to tie a fly and have fun doing so. Following the conviction that good designs can be easily made from everyday materials, Fishy ties his flies using an array of unusual items, from meat trays and sandwich wrappers to kickboards and fake fingernails. These simple, realistic patterns are tier-friendly and beautifully illustrated, and Fishy keeps the number of steps and materials to a minimum. Among the flies recommended for bass and panfish are the B. C. Shiner, Stir Stick Damselfly, and Electrician's Hellgrammite; for trout, try the Itsy Bitsy Spider, U. V. Nymph, or Midnight Snack. Saltwater creations include the Bonefishy Fly, Nail-Um, and Duster Streamer. Fishy's inventive spirit is contagious; he encourages readers to experiment with his patterns and to work on designing their own. Foreword by Dave Klausmeyer, editor of Fly Tyer magazine. |
