Ahhhhhh! Muskoka! beautiful waters, scenery to die for ....... and walleye! "Did you say, walleye?" It's paradise!
Muskoka is a large lake and offers a variety of sheltered bays and offshore galore walleye. Walleye become active at the height of summer and are actively feeding on the abundant bait fish. Each lake has its moments glance Muskoka is no exception and makes my destination in the months warm climate of the year.
There are several ways to catch these tasty "eyes", but I have my platforms of choice Muskoka for producing for me. The bait of choice is local live bait. Minnow Worms and get the green light and even the excellent Work leech. Supported by many points, drop offs and humps benches are proven methods. BUT, I use my white twister tail faithful and jig combo tipped with a good "song" dew worm. Even if I keep the template anchored on the move very slowly reeling in slack and he gets its fair share of walleye. Trolling with a cone-line such as the Erie-Dearie has finished product falling by a worm. I caught my biggest Muskoka Walleye 36 "and weighing 10 pounds with a Frenzy crank spinning on the shore. I also like to bounce a platform with lindy head of a floating jig / worm combo not touch the bottom or drifting slowly, it drags at depths of 20 to 35 feet and were rewarded for my efforts. Remember your buoys to mark your route to slow troll trip.
bottom of Lake Muskoka terrain consists of high "tundra" so be prepared to constantly renew. I travel with several rods rigged the same and just take another quick not to lose momentum.
Precautions must be taken when traveling on the lake looking for walleye. A map is a necessity because many submerged rocks and it is very easy to get lost in Lake Muskoka. different islands, could end all the same way, try to identify the details of each island if you remember, a GPS would certainly help you in your travels.
Walleye Lake Muskoka are doing very well thanks severing the DNR during the peak of the Muskoka River upstream. Keep walleye alive and well in this big lake by doing our part to keep the small fish to the pan and releasing the larger fish to restock the lake.
History here is dynamic and sensitive, it is all thanks to the whistling of Segwun vessels and Wenonah Steam II heard echoing for miles, reminding us of our proud heritage of Lake Muskoka!
