Almost every successful fisherman has used flies to catch trout. Fishing flies on spinning equipment opens up fly fishing to all fisherman, not just the fly rod wielding among us. However, if you don't fish flies on spinning gear properly, you will find yourself frustrated with your lack of results. In this article, I will discuss the most common 5 mistakes that people make when throwing flies on spinning rods.
1. Trying to fish flies without the proper tackle.
Look, if you want to fish flies, you can do it, even with the spinning rod you already have, but you're going to need a couple of inexpensive pieces of tackle. Don't be cheap: a casting bubble, a swivel and piece of leader don't cost that much. Stop wasting your time trying to make your own casting bubble and buy one that work correctly the first time.
2. Using a casting bubble that doesn't open.
While you may be able to cast a fly and bubble rig with almost any float, you won't be able to do so consistently, under varying conditions with both surface flies and subsurface flies. A casting bubble that opens will allow you to add or remove weight to the bubble as needed.
3. Using swivels that don't swivel.
There are a few reasons your swivel won't swivel and they all mean the same thing in the end: dreaded line twist on your main line and reduced casting distance. Purchase good quality swivels and make sure they are the correct size for the line you are using is you expect to have a good time pitching flies on spinning equipment.
4. Making your leader too short.
While it is easier to cast flies on spinning rods with a shorter leaders, you won't catch as many fish as you could if you used a longer leader. In fact, if you are finding it almost impossible to catch trout with flies on spinning gear, look first the length of your leader. Fish may not be as smart as we are, but they're not that stupid either.
5. Making your leader too heavy.
Trout have excellent eye sight and if they can see your leader, they're probably not going to bite. Flies on spinning reels and rods require fine leaders, as fine as you can get away with on the water you're fishing.
If you've experimented with the fly and bubble technique but had poor results, or just want the best instruction available on this technique before you try it, so you can get it right the first time, then check out http://www.fishingnoob.com/~/spinningfly for the in-depth expose you've been looking for.

Two-Handed Fly Casting: Spey Casting Techniques $24.43 lly, the elements of two-handed fly casting are demystified Two-handed rods have moved from relative obscurity to the forefront of modern fly-fishing. Their advantages over single-handed rods are undeniable, especially on large rivers, and places where back casting is difficult or impossible. Casting these powerful rods takes considerably less effort than traditional single-handed casting once the basics are mastered. The use of both hands allows the caster to use leverage to drive the cast, taking stress off the arms and shoulders. This makes Spey-casting ideal for anyone who has experienced a loss of strength, or for those who may have experienced fatigue casting heavy single-handed rods.
