While many anglers prefer stalking the elite trout and noble salmon, I much prefer the wily carp. Although there's no coherent history of this species, it's thought the carp originated in eastern Europe near the Black and Caspian seas. Known for their ability to adapt and survive in many different types of climates and waters, carp actually once were traded as a form of piscene currency! With such a rich stock of legend and lore, it's no wonder that I'm fascinated by and very much enjoy fishing for carp. Carp fishing can be tricky, though, so you'll need all the help you can get. Here's a brief review of a terrific piece of carp fishing tackle, the Daiwa Regal 3500 X BR reel.
About the Daiwa Regal 3500 X BR Carp Fishing Reel
This is a great-looking reel that's sure to be admired by your fellow anglers. If you're a traditionalist who prefers front drag combined with a smooth free spool system, the Regal X BR deserves a serious look. Although there are 8 models in the line, the Regal 3500 X BR is my preference, mostly because it's so versatile, especially for specimen fishing. Another reason I like this reel is that it helps me maintain a high level of control when fighting a fish, because of the excellent front drag.
Features of the Daiwa Regal 3500 X BR Reel
When I first used this reel, I mated it with a medium-fast action rod, and discovered that this is an ideal combination for powering the rod along its full length. The reel has excellent casting performance because of a superior and thoughtful design. This Regal X BR has a machined engine plate, and a tin-plated line roller that are both durable and tough, thanks to Daiwa's excellent design. Priced at around £50.00, this is a reel that every angler can afford to carry in his tackle box.
More Regal 3500 X BR Features
The X BR reel has the patented "Air Bail" system, which is made from strong, corrosion resistant tubular stainless steel with an equally corrosion resistant finish. The Air Bail's design has no protrusions and operates quite smoothly, with the result being snag-free line pick up. Add to this the "Twist Buster" feature that reduces line twist significantly, and you have a nifty reel full of features you'd find on one that costs much more. The X BR also has a clever clutch system that uses a one-way bearing to restrict handle movement to the forward direction only. Other features include a graphite rotor, low profile soft grip knob and a spare graphite spool.
Final Thoughts
I've discovered that Daiwa has a strong commitment to angling in the UK. Their products appeal to those anglers who place an exceptionally high value on the sport. What more can I say? The Daiwa Regal 3500 X BR reel is an excellent piece of carp fishing tackle backed by a world-renowned company.
