Skeleton Fish
![]() |
Great White Shark is the largest known extant macro predatory fish. With up to 300 serrated teeth spread in several rows, the great white shark preys on seals, sea lions, and small toothed whales. Found in all major oceans, the Great White Shark is about six meters long and weighs 2240 kilograms. Its torpedo shaped body and strong tail allows it to effortlessly cruise at 15 miles an hour.
Drawing the skeleton of the great white shark, besides being an incredible experience, promotes learning fascinating facts about such a mighty sea animal.
Things You Will Need
1. Pencil
2. Paper/ Canvas
3. Colors (optional)
4. Paint Brush (Optional)
Directions:
Skull:
i. Draw a large, irregular oblong shape.
ii. Ensure the upper part of the skull or the Chondrocranium is slightly flat.
iii. From the lower right side of the skull, draw a sharp 'C' shaped line for its jaws.
iv. Draw a few asymmetrical shapes on the skull to give it a hollow skeletal appearance.
v. Draw a few lines and cavities on the lower right most section of the skull for the shark's Gill Arches.
vi. Shade the Chondrocranium area and the jaws to highlight it.
Vertebral Column:
i. Slightly below the upper left most side of the skull, extend a straight horizontal line.
ii. Double up the line to give dimension and portray strength.
Fins: Nearly all sharks have five pairs of gill slits, barring a few that could have six or even seven pairs.
i. Pectoral Fin
a) On the vertebral column, extend a diagonal line down towards the skull.
b) Just as it touches the skull, draw another diagonal line away from the skull, making a 'V' shape.
c) Double up these lines.
d) Draw short feather shaped lines at the end of the fin.
ii. First Dorsal Fin
a) At the centre of the vertebral column, draw a small curved and bent line upwards.
b) Draw another line parallel to it and join it.
c) It should appear thick & short, almost like the handle of a hand hoe.
iii. Pelvic Fin
a) Right below the first dorsal fin, draw a 'C' shaped line.
b) Draw fine lines on the edge of the fin to give it a feathery look.
iv. Second Dorsal Fin
a) Towards the end of the vertebral column, on the upper side, draw a small 'D' on the vertebrae.
b) Ensure the curved side faces outside and the right most end appears a little disjoint from the vertebrate.
v. Anal Fin
a) Right below the second Dorsal Fin, on the lower side, draw a small 'D' on the vertebra.
b) Ensure the curved side faces down and the right most end appears a little disjoint from the vertebra.
vi. Caudal Fin
a) Extend the right end of the vertebra with a diagonal line going upwards.
b) Double up this line.
c) Draw small zigzag lines on the top section of the caudal fin.
