Combine that with a supported hook length of 2 to 6 pounds, and you have a great rod for large river fish, and even carp.

One reviewer described this rod as not "for the faint hearted," and I tend to agree. It has remarkable casting performance and handles long casts with large feeders quite easily. I also like that reel seat is custom designed and made from corrosion resistant anodised aluminium. The rod features a screw down hood as well. For me, there's nothing quite like the Hardy Marksman range of coarse fishing tackle, particularly because of the rich tradition to which it belongs. Hardy takes great care with its products -- sometimes they're in development for years. But when they finally do arrive on the market, you can be absolutely sure they will perform flawlessly and last for years, if not decades. Another reviewer sums it up by saying that the designers and engineers at Hardy "appreciate and understand the benefits of direct control in moving water." A daunting task indeed!
