How Does a Generator Work? - The answer to that question starts with, "It depends!" It depends on the type of generator you're speaking about. There are numerous types of generators. There are: Propane Generators, Diesel Generators, Wind Generators, Gas Generators, Natural Gas Generators and even Bio-Fuel Generators. Of course, there are probably some sources of generator power that I've missed.
For example, I have a friend who is an engineer, inventor and perpetual tinker guru. He invented a magnetic gizmo generator that has been providing the electricity for his house for three years now. He's been off the grid, for over 38 months and counting. As they say, "brilliant!" I can't wait until he decides to release this invention to the public at large. Just think, no more monthly electric bills! Can you say, "Yippee ki yea!" Ok, let's get back to answering your question, "How does a generator work?"
Just Think of a Generator As Electricity In Reverse, Huh? - Picture yourself plugging the cord of a fan into a 120 volt AC power outlet and then you hit the "On" button and bod-a-bing, you've got a nice breeze of air blowing on you from the fan. That electric motor in the fan is put to work due to the electricity causing it to turn. In a nutshell, the electricity comes from your electrical utility company, into your house and then directly to the outlet that you're plugged into and that electricity gets the fan going or whatever "Thing a Ma Jig" you've plugged into the outlet.
Generators that produce electricity operate on that same principle, just in reverse! Since I used a fan as an example, I'm going to spin things around and use a Wind Generator to explain this principle. This time we're going to take the same fan and place it outside, not to provide a breeze, but to receive a breeze. As the wind blows, the blades on the fan turn. Attached to the blades is a shaft that goes into an electric generator motor. As this shaft attached to the motor turns, it produces electricity. Depending on the size of the generator, it may have just enough power to accommodate a small electric saw. Or, it can produce enough power to light up an entire hospital!
Your question was, "How does a generator work?" Well there's your answer; in it's simplistic form, You'll need to perform a search on the Internet, if you want to get more technical questions answered such as, "What is the principle of electromagnetic induction? How does a generator convert mechanical energy into electrical energy?"
When it comes to generators, Joe Elliot is your man! He literally shows you the power. His website is a MegaSite for virtually any and every type and brand of generator on the market. Got a question about generators? Want to know more than How Does a Generator Work? Need help figuring out what you need? Why search the web, when you can find clear cut answers and solutions at http://www.Findgenerators.net

Understanding .NET, Adobe Reader $39.99 This is the eBook version of the printed book. If the print book includes a CD-ROM, this content is not included within the eBook version. Microsoft's .NET is revolutionizing Windows-based software development. Since its initial release in 2002, .NET has changed significantly, becoming the foundation for a new generation of Windows applications. The .NET Framework and Visual Studio, the two core aspects of this initiative, provide a multilanguage environment in which developers can create Web services, graphical user interfaces, and other kinds of applications. Taken as a whole, the .NET technologies have changed the way nearly every Windows application is built. Now fully updated for version 2.0 of the .NET Framework and Visual Basic 2005, Understanding .NET, Second Edition, is a concise guide to the landscape of Windows development. Margin notes, detailed diagrams, and lucid writing make this book easy to read and navigate, while analysis sections explore controversial issues and address common concerns. David Chappell's independent perspective and straightforward descriptions clarify both how the .NET technologies work and how they can be used. Coverage includes An overview of .NET and its goals The Common Language Runtime (CLR) The .NET languages, including C#, Visual Basic, and C++ The .NET Framework class library Building Web Applications with ASP.NET Accessing Data with ADO.NET .NET framework integration with SQL Server 2005 The key to using a new technology is to understand the fundamentals. This book provides the robust foundation developers and technical managers need to make the right decisions and maximize the potential of this revolutionary framework. |

Programming .NET 3.5 $35.99 .NET 3.5 will help you create better Windows applications, build Web Services that are more powerful, implement new Workflow projects and dramatically enhance the user's experience. But it does so with what appears to be a collection of disparate technologies. In Programming .NET 3.5 , bestselling author Jesse Liberty and industry expert Alex Horovitz uncover the common threads that unite the .NET 3.5 technologies, so you can benefit from the best practices and architectural patterns baked into this newest generation of Microsoft frameworks. While single-topic .NET 3.5 books delve into Windows Presentation Foundation and the other frameworks in greater detail, Programming .NET 3.5 offers a "Grand Tour" of the release that describes how the four principal technologies can be used together, with Ajax, to build modern n-tier and service-oriented applications. Developers have struggled to implement these patterns with previous versions of the .NET Framework, but this hands-on guide uses real-world examples and fully annotated source code to demonstrate how .NET 3.5 can make it easy. The concepts and technologies that this book covers include: XAML -- Microsoft's new XML-based markup language for UI, used with WPF Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) -- a new presentation framework and graphics subsystem for Windows that puts Vista-like effect in your grasp Ajax Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) - a new standards-based framework that enables applications to communicate across a network using a variety of protocols Workflow Foundation (WF) -- framework for defining, executing, and managing workflows CardSpace -- framework for managing the identities of your users You'll learn how to use each of the four frameworks alone and in concert to build a series of meaningful example applications. Examples are written in C#, and all of the source code will be available for download at both the O'Reilly and the authors' site, which offers access to a free support forum. Between them, authors Jesse Liberty and Alex Horovitz have nearly forty years of experience in delivering commercial applications for companies such as Citibank, Apple, AT&T, NeXt, PBS, Ziff Davis, and dozens of smaller organizations. Their combined experience is valuable for telling the story of .NET 3.5 and how it will shorten the development life cycle for applications developers, and enhance your productivity. |

Release 2.0: Issue 3 $129.99 What makes the net great us also precisely what makes it so dangerous. The virtual world is becoming so similar to the real one that some think the overt laws, or at least agreed-upon rules, may be necessary for the Net to survive in its current open form. If the internet can be ruined by everything from criminals to overzealous politicians responding to those criminals, then how can it be saved? We explore this issue in Release 2.0: Issue 3. Other topics in this issue: Listening to Lawrence Lessig - The man who started it all considers hard, thinks hard, and worries hard - about what code and the law can do. Open APIs Aren't Open Source - Six lessons for developers From Audience to Producer - It may not be news to you, but it's news to someone. Ambiguity is a Feature, Not a Bug - A new way to think about code |

Eddy Currents in Magnetic NanoStructures $105.14 The main motivation to develop a dynamic micromagnetic model that includes eddy currents is the importance of accurate calculations of time dependent micromagnetic processes for magnetic data storage (hard disk recording, magnetic random access memory MRAM) at high data rates and the demand for ultrafast switching in magnetic naonstructures. Computational micromagnetics presents an efficient tool to study these kind of ultra fast spin dynamics. In this work a theory that explains eddy current effects in single and multidomain particles was developed. Based on the theory a model was derived that predicts eddy current contributions in multiscale particles, which allows to design and predict the behavior of materials that will be used in future magnetic recording heads as well as in magnetic data storage medias. It is shown that the size of the particles, which designates the coherence of the spin structure, is essential for the eddy current net contribution to the effective damping parameter, which is a function of particle size and electric conductivity, and directly influences the magnetization reversal process in submicron permalloy structures.
