There are various trout fishing flies that anglers can use. What is amazing with fly fishing is the patterns are closely similar to that of what insects, terrestrial, and forage fish trout prey on. With the right choice and proper presentation of flies catching trout is successfully achieved.
Anglers or fishers do not have to concentrate on one or two flies as they can actually use as many variations as they want. However, based on actual observations, fishers catch as many trout even with fewer patterns that are carried. Most enthusiast are preoccupied with what fly patterns to use rather than learning the presentation to attract fish. It is really profitable to spend time practicing how to fish than tying bench.
If experts and experienced fishers are asked of their top choice they would not have more then two that are the same. However, nymphs, dry flies, wet flies and streamers are definitely included at least once or twice in their list. As a beginner these are the best choices to start with. Then as you get to see how fishing for trout works it would be easier to make alterations as to which fly is better for you.
No matter how diligent you are in selecting the best trout fishing fly it surely will not answer your bewilderment on how to be a successful trout fisher and it will certainly not teach you how to be a good one either. As you go through the process and experience firsthand the information regarding the outcomes, scenarios, problems encountered, as well as a good catch, it is then that you get to come up with better ideas of your own.
Meaning in time you will gain the adequate ideas such as the best method to use, effective flies or baits, appropriate gears, and the like that a beginner should know. Somehow with the help of the following most commonly used flies by anglers, there is no reason not to catch trout.
Dry Flies
They are mostly found in top water that looks like insects. Frequent drying of the fly is essential when using this type. Apply gink oil to keep the fly from floating, but some flies though may float due to water tension.
Nymphs
Nymphs are like new born as it appears that they just have sprouted from their cocoon. These are the stimulants of trout, as they crave for food especially insects in their larval stage. Nymphs are normally found underwater, therefore it's important for fishing flies to be incorporated with a weight to keep it underwater.
Streamer Fly
This is a wet fly that looks similar to that of an injured bait fish. This type is larger compared to that of the other fly fishing flies and an excellent bait for predatory fishes.
Terrestrial
These fishing flies are flexible and can be used as either a wet or dry fly. Its features are similar to that of a large land insect that may have accidentally fallen into the water. More so, this insects looks like a struggling insect trying to get away from the water. A good example of this are grasshoppers and ants.
These are some simple guidelines a beginner needs to know before buying trout fishing flies. Remember that to be a successful trout fisher is learned through experience and not just by the fishing flies bought in stores.

French Fishing Flies (Hardcover) $34.21 Cul de Canard (Duck`s Rump), Farefelue (The Crazy One), Plantureuse (Buxom Gal), Peute (The Ugly One)-the names are deliciously French but one would make a terrible mistake to think that only French-born trout like these fishing flies. "Design," said Datus Proper, "is why this book has as much to do with the Henry`s Fork as with the Risle." At least one of the flies introduced by French Fishing Flies more than twenty-five years ago, the Cul de Canard, has long since become a true staple in fly boxes around the world. Others will surely follow. This fascinating book is bound to be of great interest to fly fishermen everywhere. |
