Do you play the drums? If you answered yes then you definitely know what it is like to be asked to stop playing. Drums are not made to annoy family, friends, and neighbors, but do they? YES, they do. Drummers understand how important it is to have a soundproof drum room, and luckily so do soundproofing companies.
When creating a soundproof drum room, it's very important to use the best materials available. Using makeshift soundproofing materials like egg cartons and moving blankets will not give you the absorption that is necessary to effectively eliminate the echoes and vibrations that go hand in hand with drums.
To compare drum soundproofing materials, there is a rating called NRC, which stands for Noise Reduction Coefficient. The best drum soundproofing materials will have the highest NRC ratings, on a scale of 0-1. Some soundproofing materials even have a higher NRC than 1 because they are made to absorb all echoes and reverberations, and then some
Necessary items for Creating a Soundproof Drum Room:
* Absorption Sheets - Clean up sound by getting rid of mid and high 'nuisance' noises.
* Acoustic Panels - Absorb as much as 60% of the echoes and reflections within a space
* Sound Insulation- used to reduce the transmission of sound through walls, floors, and ceilings
* Drum Pads - Minimize drum head and cymbal vibration. "Mutes" the impact of sticks on the surface of the instrument while maintaining a surprisingly "real" feel and sound.
There are many drum soundproofing materials out there when it comes to creating a soundproof drum room. Don't overpay for excess material if you don't need to. Before beginning your project, measure the size of your room and determined what results you want to achieve. If you are creating a soundproof drum room in your home, chances are you will want to block the transmission of drum noise between rooms as well as address the acoustics. On the other hand, if you're soundproofing a garage, adding sound insulation might not be necessary.
Consider all of your options and consult an acoustical expert before beginning your project. Chances are you will be much more satisfied with the results if you get the advice of someone in the soundproofing industry before purchasing your products!
