The Emperor Penguin is the largest penguins in Antarctica, the coldest climate on earth with temperatures as low as 140 degrees. It is very rare to find a life outside of Emperor Penguins in Antarctica. . He is 4 feet tall, and weighs 70 to 90 pounds. It has a black head and wings, while its belly is white. Baby Emperor Penguins have a thick gray feathers, which help absorb heat to warm them. The male emperor penguin has a large pocket between his legs and lower abdomen that keeps the eggs warm.
They are very sociable creatures that live in colonies of 500 to 20,000 penguins, Penguins use a unique way to keep warm in extremely cold climate, they are all crowded around and the penguin is in the middle of the group will be the hottest. Once the penguin is warm enough, leaving the other penguins shoot another take place and warm, sheltered from cold winds. These penguins are well insulated feathers that help keep it comfortable in the cold.
Unlike other penguins eat food from the surface Emperor penguins, like eating fish from the ocean. They dive on the ocean and stay underwater for up to 18 minutes and can reach depths of 700 feet or more. Emperor penguins swim together, however, they like to catch their food by themselves.
Emperor Penguins are the only creatures who remain in Antarctica as winter arrives in March, while all other species leave. Meanwhile, a female Emperor penguins lay only one egg, then travel by sea to get food. The male emperor penguin will stay with the egg to keep it warm by balancing it on his feet and covering it with his pocket which is a large warm layer of feathered skin. The male must remain there for about 65 days but the freezing temperatures, winds and storms cruel with nothing to eat all the time. After the egg hatches, the female penguin returns to the sea with food for chicks hatched, the male then, in turn, goes to sea to fish for food, leaving women to care for chicks. The mother protects the chick the extremely cold winds, as they could freeze to death within 2 minutes.
