Kids love to fish even if they have never done it. They just love the idea. I think all kids should experience fishing, and some may end up with a lifelong love of it like I did. But the reality of fishing can bore kids if it's done wrong. Fishing with kids is different than fishing by yourself or adults, at least until the kids get some experience and start to understand it. I fish very differently with kids than alone, and even fish very different places with kids than with myself.
Here are five guidelines for getting kids to enjoy fishing.
1) If possible, take them somewhere with a lot of fish. You may have some small ponds just teeming with sunfish for example, and although you may not want to fish for small stunted fish, kids don't care. They love action! If you don't know of a place like this just ask around. People gladly share great children fishing spots, although their favorite spots may be big secrets. You can ask other fishermen as well as at tackle spots. People are very supportive of taking kids fishing.
2) Unless you are pretty sure you are going to catch fish, you can tell them you are going to practice fishing. If you catch fish, that is a big plus. Kids enjoy casting for example and you might even get them to cast a hookless bobber or sinker to practice while another line with bait is out. Conversely you can toss out a baited line, and work with them on casting a lure. Anything to keep them active and happy.
3) Let the kids engage in other activities while fishing if they want. My kids like trying to catch crabs, frogs, and crayfish near shore while fishing. Sometimes my son throws rocks (please not into the water or anywhere dangerous) or reading a book. That's fine. Anything that keeps them happy.
4) If they get bored or want to leave, let them. You want fishing to be a positive activity in their minds, whether you fish for 10 minutes or 2 hours. If they get bored they will not have a positive experience.
5) Consider combining fishing with another activity. We sometimes go fishing for a little while and then take a swim. Or we may go get an ice cream cone and then fish a nearby creek.
Kids love to fish. Just do your best to make it a fun and positive experience and they'll want to go again and again.

Abel Prize $76.47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Abel Prize is an international prize presented annually by the King of Norway to one or more outstanding mathematicians. The prize is named after Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel (1802 1829). It has been often described as the mathematicians Nobel prize and is among the most prestigious awards in mathematics. It comes with a monetary award of six million kroner, which in 2009 was 684,000 or US929,000. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters annually declares the winner of the Abel Prize after selection by a committee of five international mathematicians. The committee is headed by Kristian Seip. The amount of money that comes with the prize is usually close to US 1 million, similar to the Nobel Prize, which is awarded in Sweden and Norway and excludes mathematics. Norway gave the prize an initial funding of NOK 200,000,000 (about US23,000,000) in 2001. The prize is an attempt at creating publicity for mathematics, making the discipline more prestigious, especially for young people.
